There’s so much to be said about this gorgeous boat! Let’s start with the design. Built in 1984 by the Alexander Marine Company of Taiwan, this Ocean 70 model is a high end, modern, contemporary motor yacht – and ”Start Me Up” is a classic example: ready to cruise in style anywhere your heart desires. Displaying a blend of quintessential old-world seaworthiness with modern luxury amenities, this rugged design is a trendsetter in long-distance cruising. And for those who desire a classic boat with vintage original touches, this Ocean Alexander will shine.

The vessel is classed as a long-range motor yacht, sporting twin turbo-charged diesels for economical and high horsepower, comfortable distance cruising. And best of all, family and friends who cruise with you will find there is plenty of room to make everyone feel at home, while yachtsmen and women will appreciate the many special touches outlined below.

The design of this handsome yacht incorporates hull lines that are traditional but modern. Not only is the design similar to that of her time-tested sister vessel design, but incorporates more modern aspects typical to a semi planing combination modern motor yacht. The hull has a raked modern sportfisherman “flared” bow with an immediate deep deadrise “V” entry tapering slightly into a moderate dead rise “vee” amidships carried aft along a moderate “V” stern section. Her chines are doubled and hard. Her twin engines are a direct drive design, attributing to a stable and balanced hull, whether in displacement or semi displacement mode.

Alright, now let’s take a tour! To begin, a custom exterior staircase brings you into the wheelhouse forward amidships, where you’ll find an ergonomic steering and navigational console with 270 visibility through wing doors that allow for viewing fishing, diving and docking and other ships business. Upstairs on the upper deck the flybridge steering station boasts almost 360 degree visibility. Both helm stations have dual station engine gauging and multi-station controls. The wheelhouse also houses the electrical breaker panels.

The upstairs deck has a spacious lounging area with grill, fire pit, and large sun umbrella – and, just for fun, a putting green! In a thoughtful and masterful touch, and one that has greatly increased the safety of the dinghy deployment process, the current owners relocated the davit system from amidships to the aft of the top deck. While they were at it, they also extended and enclosed the sunroom below, creating a beautifully sunny and inviting dining room/solarium with seating for 8. From the sunroom you can access the aft swimstep and safely assist in docking the boat as well. (*note that the dinghy and outboard stay with the boat, so you have easy access to land while cruising!)

Forward of the wheelhouse there is a broad foredeck area providing anchoring provisions via a bow anchor platform with integral bow roller/anchor chocking. The large hawspipe deposits her chain rode under the forward cabin (nice and low in the vessel) and she has an anchor windlass and forward scuttle hatch providing access and egress from below decks.

The fore-house deck has a “Portuguese” bridge walk around the house and transiting into a raked main house with brow and flybridge atop. The flybridge has splash guards and combings, a hard-top frame, and radar arch with an antennae array provision. Walkways lead to port and starboard along the cabin sides to her covered aft deck lounge area.

Deck mounted safety equipment includes an anchoring platform system forward with a heavy duty SS ½ length bow railing, an all-around toe-railing, high deck combings at the after lounge deck and self-draining deck areas. Non-skid surfaces are provided as molded non skid. Grab rails are provided at cabin top and other strategic locations.

But enough about the exterior and decks, let’s take a look at the living quarters! This boat was designed to be enjoyed either alone or with lots of friends and family. After you enter the wheelhouse at the main deck level, you will proceed aft. Immediately past the stairs to the top deck there is a spacious U-shaped galley to starboard with all the amenities; full size refrigerator, four burner electric stove and oven, dishwasher, and large new Frigidaire microwave. To port of the galley is a guest bathroom with toilet and sink.

Proceeding farther aft you will find yourself in an expansive salon with two big screen televisions and large and comfortable lounging couch. Continuing fully aft will bring you to the newly enclosed dining/sun room. Back in the wheelhouse, Port side staircase leads below decks to the forward cabins. A staircase off the salon to port will lead you below to the aft master cabin and the engine room and laundry area (yes, there is even a washer and dryer aboard!). Living spaces and areas include plush carpeting, the liberal use of teak joinery and veneer, and the vessel features teak cabin soles at the main level. She sports professionally upholstered seating and berthing cushions, some of which will soon be replaced with new, including in the wheelhouse, which includes bench seating and table directly behind the navigation seating.

But that’s not all, let’s go below decks! Here you will find great attention to detail in the layout of this cruiser, with three double twin bed cabins forward, each with their own bathrooms, and the master suite with full ensuite bathroom aft.

A stylish curving staircase leads from the wheelhouse to the forward cabins. Each guest cabin has two twin beds, ample storage, and bathrooms with showers. The forward cabin in the bow (also known as the Captains cabin) also includes a three burner electric stove, sink, and refrigerator. This cabin includes access to the anchor locker forward of the bathroom, where the windlass and battery for the windlass are easily accessible.

Off the salon is the staircase to the master suite, which has a large king size centerline platform bed, and full bathroom, including a bathtub, providing affording a luxurious private getaway! There is ample stowage throughout the vessel, including closets, dressers, cabinets and under-bed stowage in each of the suites. And what a treat: all beds have brand new 6” high quality mattresses! Note: from the aft sunroom there is also deck access provided to the master cabin. This companionway is serviced by a slide hatch and is the primary emergency access/egress hatch for the master cabin.

The engine compartment is accessed both below decks – just aft of the master cabin – and also by an opening scuttle hatch at the main cabin deck area via large lifting hatches in the sole of the salon. Running gear access is at the engine space. Tankage is located here at the wings, and access to the rudder housing is located through the after cockpit lazarette hatch.

The vessel is propelled by twin 1984 GM Detroit (Johnson and Towers), JT 8V92TT, V-8 cylinder, diesel-powered engines. The engines are fresh water cooled through heat exchangers. Complete specs are below. The engine is up to date with servicing.
